  1. Michele V. says:

I still smile when I think of the moment they called my name and I walked up on stage to receive my masters degree from NYU…it was a journey to get there.( oh mah gawd, there I go…smiling again ! )

  2. Sheila Healy says:

I still smile when I think of the moment 32 years ago when I first came out to myself and a priest at the same time! While he went on to waste his time trying to “straighten me out”, I went on to find myself and a community I’ve been a part of ever since.

  3. Jan says:

Still makes me smile to remember 27 years ago when my honey took me home with her. She realized she forgot her keys, went into her yard to get a stick, said “Stand back,” and broke the window of her kitchen door. Ohhh, love it!!

  4. Bellabell says:

Blossom and I had communicated for a couple of years via an online Lesbian group and then by email. She had a short lay-over (fanning myself over that term)in Phoenix, so I came up to meet her for the first time in the flesh, as the phrase goes.

It was a huge plane, and packed to the gills. I held up a big sign, announcing her screen name, and watched as woman after woman got off the plane. I had already fallen in love, but knew not my beloved’s face or form. On and on went the line of people deplaning. Then almost last of all, this wondrous tall blonde in a chic trench coat got off and came right for my sign. I threw a fist in the air and whooped, “YES!”

We’ve been together for fourteen years. I ALWAYS smile
    at that sweet memory.

  5. Britt says:

The day I landed in Norway and began this amazing journey that has taken me to the best and the worst of this world.

  6. Kathy Cunningham says:

Many moments in time make me smile, but I believe the best one of all occurred on Feb 16th, 2004. Two days after Mayor of San Francisco Gavin Newsom mandated that city clerks should issue same sex couples marriage licenses, my partner of 10 (it’s now 19) years, our son and I flew to San Fransisco, stood in a line that wrapped around the Court House block, in the pouring rain at 5a, and finally, at approx 1:30p, were legally married. The joy, the validation, the incredible high, the camaraderie of those in line, the welcoming clerks inside the building, the support of bystanders, the free cab rides to newlyweds, the buses and cars that honked in support, the flowers delivered to anonymous couples from across the country never EVER fails to make me smile.

  7. Sondra Scott says:

I smile when I remember the hummingbird hovering near Jan’s left shoulder as she said her vows at our wedding 8 years ago today.

  8. Cindy says:

When I met my wife at the 1st single women’s weekend in Ptown.

  9. Jude says:

The first time my wife kissed me, in the middle of a busy live-action roleplaying game, while we were having a quiet, friendly moment while her migraine settled down. We’d been friends for years, but had only just really fallen in love.

  10. Mello Lindberg says:

Many years ago my gf and I were on a a 2 week vacation, camping on a lake in Northern Minnesota. Unfortunately she found herself to be miserable and constipated while there. Her discomfort prompted us to leave early to return home. Halfway home we stopped at our favorite truck stop, for a visit to the ladies room and to pick up coffee and donuts. I entered the restroom first and saw three stalls that looked empty. I entered the first and she entered the second. A few minutes later I heard a very loud release of gas and a sigh. Believing it was her, finally feeling some relief, I exclamed, “Atta Girl!!”. There were a few minutes of complete silence, and then she said softly, “It wasn’t me.”
I about died. I wanted to wait until we were left alone before leaving my stall but that lady must have washed her hands for half an hr. I finally came out and she left. She was probably waiting to see what the bathroom cheerleader looked like. When that door closed we started laughing and continued laughing the rest of the trip. Since that time the words “Atta Girl” have a little extra meaning and bring smiles!!

  11. wanger says:

when i came out to my best friend. i was nervous and awkward and mumbling, and at first, she thought that i was moving out to california, but then when i finally got the words out, she smiled and gave me a big hug and told me how proud of me she was.

  12. NJ Nina says:

Ok so this is going to sound so cliche but here goes: My first day of junior high school when I walked into my homeroom and saw this awesome sweatsuit-wearing dyke in the front of the classroom. That’s when the lightbulb went off in my head! Every time I think of that teacher (who also was my softball coach and later a very close friend!) I smile. Sadly I lost that friend several years ago but remember her fondly.
