Hi, Kate:
Do you believe there is support, empirical or otherwise, for the old
cliche that "all the good ones are taken"? If not, where are they and why are
they not "taken?" Does that mean they're not so good after all, or just can't
find each other?
Thoughts?

Dear Sharon,
I believe in, "there's someone for everyone" and "never sit around in a
wet bathing suit," both nostrums from my Mother. Sarah Palin for John
McCain, etc. And now I better go change my suit.
For one week give up on the whole propes of finding someone - no really do
it - and let me know what happens.
Best,
Kate

Hi, Kate:
In interpersonal "situations," which is the higher virtue, truth or mercy?
Again, no pressure, mentor!

Sharon,
In my personal situation room truth has the big comfy chair and mercy is sometimes allowed in to vacuum after a tete a tete. It's just better that way. I don't remember much anymore and I have a better chance if I tell the truth.
"Does this make me look fat?" causes Mercy to knock on the door with her broom handle, but that's when I launch into a truthful, if impersonal, dissertation on stripes.
Next time, be a little more truthful with your "no pressures."
Best,
Kate

Which do you think America will see first:? a gay President or a female
President?? (And wouldn't it be cool if those adjectives weren't mutually
exclusive in a candidate!)
Char,
I think after what Larry Kramer has been researching about Abe Lincoln that there were areas in Abe's life in which he was not completely honest. We have all been there. So I think we will see a woman sooner than an openly gay president. I hope she's a Democrat!!
I'm busy. Sorry.
Best,
Kate
Love your humor.

Hi, Kate:
Hopes this finds you happily enjoying summer!
If making George W. "belly laugh" would result in his transformation into a
peaceful, sensible, humanitarian compelled to end violence and hunger around
the world, what would you say to him?
No pressure.

Dear Sharon,
It is too a lot of pressure. And what I generally do in pressure situations is dissociate. So I am first imagining that world you described - peaceful, well fed, sensible, humanitarian. I am woozy. After eight years of laughing/crying AT Hellboy, I just don't think I can make him laugh with me. He has accumulated sick days, I wish he would leave now.
I am working on a Bush pleading for his life before the International War Crimes Tribunal, and will get back to you.
Best,
Kate

Did you know that the Catholic Church, hereafter referred to as "the
Corporation" has literally proposed amendments to the ten commandments?
(is that an
amazingly audacious proposition or what?) I'm pretty sure the shareholder's
meeting is in Rome, so I'd like to give you my proxy. Unlike the brethren
who will no doubt be assembled, I trust you to vote our collective
conscience.
Thank you.

Is that you, Sister Mary Sharon? It's been so long. I'd heard you'd left the order. His Extreme SlipperySlopeheadedness,
also uses the executive signing privilege George uses, so no use going to sit with the Bishoprics. The
Widow Ratzinger will do as he will. God speaks through the both of them. So they say. Meantime, I'm doing a novena
for the Yankees.
Can I get an amen?

We always enjoy Kate when she comes to town. But we are a bit out of the
loop these days with health issues and working to regain strength. Is
Kate still a MA resident and has she married yet? We've never heard
whether she has "walked the walk" as it were. And if not, why?
Sari & Kate

Sari and Kate,
Your names sound like my Indian girlfriend and me! We have been together twenty years
and are not residents of MA. We have domestic partnership in New York State.
We have not married, still live in sin and though we absolutely support the right
to marry, have not walked that walk. Why? Simply put, we don't want to. Yet. Perhaps
when there is full federal recgnition of marriage equality we will do it. We will be sure to let
you know where we our bridal registry is!!
Best,
Kate
