HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!

Kate looks to the future on her 60th Birthday.

What does the future mean to Kate and what is she looking for!

Kate responds:

As always I look and work for an end to the oppression of women, which
will mean no more war or Jenny Craig. I remain optimistic, despite
current idiotic evidence to the contrary. Since I believe this is my
only life, my only day, I prefer optimism.
I am a gray haired lesbian Polyanna.

Enjoy your day Miss Clinton!

I was just yesterday explaining to a co-worker that I am not a "Pollyanna" in that the word refers to: "A person regarded as being foolishly or blindly optimistic." (American Heritage online) Is it foolish to believe in the transformative power of love? More foolish is to be dismissive of the power of love, which puts one at odds with one's own heart....

I did a search for nonviolent resistance training, hoping to find some course that will help keep me positive in my work in what Franz Kafka called hell and said he was afraid of: an office! Somehow, my search led me to this website. About 7 months ago I told a group of folks in my then-office (I've changed jobs) about Kate's routine: "Have you ever been victimized by a sudden menstrual gush?" I shared this because one of the young men in the office has a daughter and was saying he hoped never to have to talk with her about things like her period. Another man said he had seen a woman walking down the street with her boyfriend and she wore white pants with a growing stain on the seat. The folks were a nice mix of men and women of various sexual orientations. It was a fantastic conversation, actually -- it felt like we were all waking up to a new way of loving one another :)
