Holiday Greetings
===========================================
Happy Old Year to you all. 2006, given my odd-even, butch-femme theory, was a very butch year. I wore wing tips. In my mind. Thank you all for coming out and coming to my shows throughout the country. It was a trip down memory lane. I ran into a fellow activist from my college days. We had gone to a Junior dance together, split there after an hour. I changed from a formal to jeans in his VW bug, as we roared downtown to Janis Joplin live in concert. I met the woman who years ago was fulfilling orders at Marmot and didn’t believe me when I placed an order and gave her my name, "No way, this is not Kate Clinton. Janet, cut it out." I met a woman who produced a show in Charlottesville, when the basement flooded and I was almost electrocuted when I grabbed the mike. It's been a heckuva year in large and small ways.
My darling Team Clinton, Tam Martin and Michele Karlsberg, did amazing work on details large and small to make the tour a smooth success. Thanks to the amazing patient work of our webmistress, Ari Moore, we got more bells and whistles on the website. More to come!! Thanks to all the hard working producers who took a risk and brought me to their towns in a time of terror alerts, high gas prices and general political malaise. And thanks of course to NCLR for their steadfast and fun support.
We all look forward to 2007, a femme year. I've got my eye on some performance pumps. Amazingly, in 2007, I proudly turn 60 years old! There will be a croning ceremony when, at long last, I don my wraparound sunglasses worn over my regular glasses. I'll be ready for spot welding. Last summer, I overheard some women at the ticket window in PTown, looking at my poster, wondering if "she's had work done." I have gotten a lot of work done in 25 years. I'm proud of it and every little representative wrinkle. I attribute my longevity to all the years I have had the pleasure of your gales of gasping, hooting, shrieking laughter washing over me. I am so grateful for my job - for my beloved team, the occasional entourage, my patient cultural war bride - and look forward to serving up more laughs in the future.
Best,
Kate

Step Into Our Forum: Contest Winners
We had two lucky t-shirt winners in October for posting in the forum. Congratulations to Barb from Maine and Laurie from Pennsylvania. Read on for their letters to us, and links to their posts...
Kate,
Glad to hear from you as I wanted to write you the day after the election, but I was in the hospital for some minor surgery. Santorum has lost by a large margin here in Pennsylvania. I was so ecstatic that I told the operating room folks that I didn't need any anesthesia! Then as an afterthought I thought "I hope none of these scalpel wielders are republicans! Guess not, cause I am home safe and sore....Anyhow, I knew you would be happy about Santorum too! Lots of folks don't seem to understand why that is such a big deal! Thanks for understanding, And keep up the good work you do!
Laurie
P.S. My spell check keeps trying to change "Santorum" to "sanitarium" interesting, don't you think?

Hi Kate,
I just love your sense of humor and intelligence! I'm looking forward to reading your other books. I've read, "Don't get me Started," several years ago and LOVED it! Just a short time ago I joined the "CommuniKate," newsletter. Several days after I that I was having a conversation with someone about you. LUCKY me... they had tickets to see you at Colby College here in Maine....but something had come up and they couldn't attend ( they did get to see you in P-Town though). I ended up with the tickets and my partner and I got to see your show! Woohoo! I couldn't get tickets it was sold out. I cant believe the good fortune I had!
The show was on the same night that I received the tickets....just 2 hours before. I called my partner and told her ," Cancel any plans... get home quickly... we're heading to Colby college to see Kate Clinton!" As usual she was late getting home... but we rushed out the door and made it just as you were starting the show. Oh yeah, we did get lost for a bit on campus...but we made it and had a great time!! We even found a couple that was walking along the campus, lost like us. Told them to hop in the car and we would all find you. LOL! So between the four of us... a cell phone and the help of a student... we found you. LOL!
I had planned on making it to the online chat last week... but I got held up out of town and ended up missing it. Really hoping to catch the next one! Thank you soo much for signing my book and the incredible show... it was awesome! We had a great time and did lots of laughing!
Sincerely,
Barb

Yet More YouTube: Grist
Hi Kate,
My name is Connie David, and I am the blind woman with whom you had a very brief conversation on the way back to the ship in Skagway on the recent Alaskan cruise. I was also in the front row of every performance that I attended.
First of all, I want to tell you how very much I enjoy your sense of humor, as well as your commitment to social justice and to your craft. You manage to make the serious funny, the sublime ridiculous, and the complete insanity in which we are living almost tolerable. Notice I said almost. It should never be tolerated.
Second, I found a link to something I thought you might enjoy. It is a speech that was given on 9-11 that I thought would give you and the Democrats a lot of grist for your mills. I am pretty sure you will use it, I am not so sure about the Democrats. The site is:

I hope you enjoy it.
Sincerely,
Connie David

Quotable Kate
Kate,
I love your wit and your way of seeing the world. I've turned a lot of people into fans of yours. I just wanted to let you know that I quote you often - at work, at home, on bulletin boards, dry-erase boards, wherever it seems appropriate. My girlfriend and I own a monument company - and one of my employees is a young, very Baptist, man... and I quote you to him, though he doesn't know it. It makes my day a little more fun sometimes. I even thought of having my truck lettered across the back with "hopelessly lost, but making good time" - I love that one. So I hope you don't mind that I think of your words and share them occasionally. I'm hoping to make it to the Gettysburg show. Money is tight right now, but I'm going to see what I can to to talk my girlfriend into an evening out. (It's a two hour drive for us).
Thanks for your work!

Together in Sanity
Kate,
Thanks for the awesome performance last night here in Waterville Maine. Maybe you remember me... I was the one in short hair. Actually I was one of your three volunteers on stage. You kissed my cheek. Now I can't bathe for a few weeks.
Anyway, I've been seeing you perform all 25 years! congratulations. And thanks for your political comments. Sometimes I think "Am I the only sane person on this planet?" You remind me there there are more of us.
Regards,
Connie Valliere

Indulgences
Hi, Kate -
My partner and I were in the audience in Sarasota Saturday night and were almost sick, we laughed so much! Thank you for your gift of humor, wit - and great timing! As recovering Catholics (actually, I was in the convent for 16 years!), we appreciate your irreverent spin on "the Church"... Your recounting of "Limbo" reminded me of similar theology... do you remember the teaching on indulgences? I looked up the Baltimore Catechism on-line and am sending you the link, if you can stand it!
http://www.truecatholic.org/baltcont.htm
Thanks for all you do to keep us laughing and helping us to stand up to all who seek to minimize and marginalize us. If you are in the Sarasota area and would enjoy a great home-cooked Italian meal, give us a call! My partner and I are from CT, but now live here in Venice, FL. Thanks again, Kate. Congratulations on your 25 years celebrating who you are!

Jamesville DeWitt High School
Ms. Clinton,
Hey you, it's Dan Nistico, Class of '76. I haven't talked to you in about a hundred years, but believe me, I've never forgotten you. Of course, I could get all mushy and reiterate to you your influence in my life, from an English degree to my love of The Times crossword, to my 30-year love affair with Cuckoo's Nest. But I won't. I'll simply tell you that our 30th Reunion is the weekend of October 20-22 at the usual haunts of scenic Duh-witt. Scotch and Sirloin and Drumlins. Are you still in Central New York? I seem to recall you resided there years ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if you have "moved on up" to more metropolitan digs.
Would it be presumptuous of me to point out that your calendar of shows has you free that weekend, and Gettysburg College is not that far from the Scotch and Sirloin?
If you get this e-mail, I would be thrilled to hear back from you. I realize a High School Reunion probably falls fairly low on your list, but I thought you might like to know. I'd love to hear back from you anyways. Take care, Clint.

Sillydarity
Just so pleased to find your site. I'll never forget the joyous solidarity of the early 80's during your visits to Toronto when I was a young feminist theological student. You can never imagine how many times I've used your lines from way back. The old "Oh my God what happened to my pencil?" still evokes laughter in the right places. Now I'm in menopause, and between depends and an 8 month period I look forward to taking "tampon" out of my vocab and my vag. I'll be watching and hoping that you are planning a visit around here. (Waterloo, Ontario.) I appreciate you and the links in this web site. I'll be anticipating each new addition.
Loving sillydarity,
Jsigrid

Kate Clinton 2008
Thanks, Kate, for the best show ever last night (at least of those we've been to) - you were brilliant and so over-the-top. The images you drew for us last night even drifted through our sleep - can you imagine laughing in your sleep and ending up with abdominal cramps? Well! Anyhow, your humor, timing, and presence are impeccable.
Joyce and I are planning to move back to NYC as soon as we can sell our Ptown place (can't have both), so will enjoy your fresh 'take' on the universe, even with Pluto taken out, wherever we are.
Marcia Fair
P.S. For sure, you'd make a better Pres than Robin Williams - AND, you have Urvash! :)
