Happy Old Year
===========================================

Dear Hearts,

We did it! We survived a year of presidential debates, endless war and promise of more, surge and dirge, mortgage market collapse and the tragedy of the second homeless, the dollar drop, an amended ENDA, Don Anus, bee colony collapses and Dick Cheney still ticking like that Peter Pan clock. Not for nuthin.

Thanks to you and my spiritual program - i.e. hanging with family and friends old and new, volunteering for my favorite groups, turning sixty gratefully, walking the fire road, loving what I do, loving my galpal more each day, making sure to laugh out loud every day - I look forward to 2008, and my Hilarity Clinton '08 Tour.

On New Year's Eve I plan fire up our annual sunset beachfire at Herring Cove. I'll toss into it scraps of paper representing the things from the old year I want to get rid of - fear, resentment, self-cherishing and envy. As the cinders dance down the beach, I'll remember those we lost this year - Molly Ivins, Grace Paley, Ann Richards and then I will wish us all,

Good Healthy Solstice and Happy Ass-Kicking New Year!

Best,
Kate

01.19.07: SAGE THE DATE!
===========================================

Just as the Mayan priests were called in to sage Machu Pichu after George Bush's ten minute visit to the ruins, you are being called to sage the White House after George's eight years of ruinous residency. Let's banish those evil spirits the night before the Inauguration.

Watch for more details of our spontaneous, ingenious spectacle. Sage the Date! Tell your friends.

A Message From Visible Vote '08

Kate in '08

We had a very cool visitor in the office on Friday: comedian and political sharpie Kate Clinton. So we naturally took a few minutes to quiz the always witty and winsome lesbian comic about the current Presidential campaign, who she's feeling in the race, and what gay voters ought to look for in a candidate.

Watch the video! (FYI: There may be a 30-second ad first.)
http://visiblevote08.logoonline.com/2007/12/10/gay-agenda-vlog-meets-kate-clinton/

Be sure to watch at the end when there's a suprise visit by that big icky Fox News anchor you love to loathe. Yikes!

P.S. Expect more Kate Clinton to come in 2008 as she's gonna be launching her own political video blog on VisibleVote.com and After Ellen.com. We'll keep you posted!

Climate Change: I Don't Heart Huckabee

"For my high school graduation, I asked for and received a doctor’s supervised diet. After the weigh-in and the weekly shot of "vitamins", my doctor, who was later disbarred for amphetamine abuse, gave me a thought for the week. One week his homily was about the flames of hell. He told me that they burned very verily hot because of all the fat."

Photo: hacorner-kate.jpg

Ms. Clinton,

Hi again. A'Ja here. I would like your assistance. I am attempting to plan a Houston Dyke March, but I am not sure where to start. Houston doesn't have a branch of Lesbian Avengers, so we don't really have an "organized" lesbian force. We do have many GLBT organizations that would be willing to help. We currently have an issue of whether to keep our Pride parade in Montrose, the Gayborhood, or move it Downtown where there is more room and it'd be more accessible.

So while that issue is being worked out, I would still like to sort of have this prepared. It's my first solo project but I feel that Houston should have a Dyke March.

I am not only asking for your advice or a direction, but if you could give me some sort of contact with one of the original Lesbian Avengers from either NYC or San Francisco. I want to do this, but I want to do this right. I would really appreciate any sort of advice you can give me.

Rainbow love and peace,
A'Ja

We want to hear your activism stories! Share some of the witty, gay civil protests you've done in our HA [Humor Activism] Corner:

Gregg Shapiro interviews Kate for the January Issue Of Go Guide Chicago
===========================================

Gregg Shapiro: First of all, belated congratulations on marking your 25th year of doing stand-up comedy. What kind of gifts does one receive for such an occasion?
Kate Clinton: THANK YOU - MORE FREQUENT FLIER MILES THAN THAT OLD POPE.

GS: Don't you think Target should have a gift registry for that sort of thing?
KC: I BELIEVE THE LOVELY PEOPLE AT TIFFANY'S HAVE WORKED IT OUT ON LINE.

GS: The title ofyour new show, "Hilarity Clinton `08" is utterly brilliant and inspired. Good fortune really smiled upon you when it comes to your surname. Aren't you glad that you didn't take on a different stage name?
KC: LIKE BUSH? KATE HUCKABEE. NO, CLINTON WORKS JUST FINE FOR ME.

GS: Speaking of names - using the "pornstar name formula," which is the name of your first family pet and the name of the first street you lived on as a child - what would your pornstar name be?
KC: LOUIE MCKINLEY

GS: All joking (temporarily) aside - what are your thoughts on the 2008 election?
KC: 2 BILLION WILL HAVE BEEN SPENT ON THE DAMN THING BY THE TIME IT'S OVER - TAKE THE MONEY AND FORGIVE ALL STUDENT LOANS. WE'D BE BETTER OFF. I'VE SAID CAMPAIGNS SHOULD JUST BE SIX WEEKS LONG AND DURING THOSE SIX WEEKS THE ONLY THING ON TV SHOULD BE POLITICAL AND IT SHOULD BE FREE. WITH THE WRITER'S STRIKE WE ARE GETTING VERY CLOSE TO THAT - EXCEPT FOR THE FREE PART.

GS: Have you ever given serious consideration to running for political office?
KC: I'VE ALWAYS SAID THAT I AM JUST NOT SMART ENOUGH - BUT THAT EXCUSE DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE.

GS: Will you miss not having the Bush and Cheney families to poke fun at anymore in just a little of 400 days (but who's counting)?
KC: YOU ARE SO CUTE. YOU SEEM TO THINK THEY ARE LEAVING. ADORABLE.
HONEY, HE DECLARED A FIRST TERM, WHAT'S STOPPING HIM FROM DECLARING A THIRD.

GS: You've done some acting, most recently in "The L Word." Would you like to do more of that?
KC: LOVE TO! MOSTLY BECAUSE THROUGH THE WONDERS OF THE MEDIA, I APPEAR IN PLACES I DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE TO TAKE A PLANE TO.

GS: What about a talk show? Is there one in your future?
KC: NOT UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMETHING I DON'T KNOW. I'M GOING TO START VLOGGING FOR LOGO IN 2008 - IT SOUNDS FILTHY. CAN'T WAIT TO START.

GS: As someone who, as you acknowledge, has been an outentertainer for more than 25 years now, did you ever think that you'd live to see the day that there would be LGBT cable networks such as Logo and here!?
KC: I'M JADED WITH JOY. I THOUGHT THE LOGO PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE WAS A MILESTONE FOR ALL PARTIES AND SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH THE CANDIDATES TWIST IN THE WIND - "I LOVE GAY PEOPLE, HAVE GAY PEOPLE IN MY LIFE, THINK THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MARRIED, HAVE EMPLOYMENT NON-DISCRIMINATION AND YET I DON'T THINK THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MARRIED." HUH?

GS: In your website bio, Chicago is one of the cities that you mention having performed in and you will be returning to Chicago to perform this Spring. Do you have a favorite thing about Chicago audiences?
KC: I'M VERY EXCITED TO SEE YOUR NEW GAY CENTER ON HALSTEAD AND THINK EVERY GLBT CENTER SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO A GROCERY STORE. BRILLIANT! AND I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THE RAUCOUS, WELL-INFORMED CHICAGO AUDIENCE.

A True Original

Kate,

I can't believe I'm actually emailing this to you. I saw your solo appearance from Long Beach on Logo a month or so ago, and believe it or not, I am still laughing at some of your comments. The one that just had me laughing all alone in my office is, "I would know if I were podcasting wouldn't I?"

Thanks for being a true original.
All my best,

Still Celebrating

Dear Kate,

I just got your newsletter and read about your 60th birthday! Congratulations! I have been a fan of yours forever, and just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate everything you've done - for lesbians, for comedy, and for women, overall. You are smart and sexy and very friggin' funny. Thanks for all the laughs. You make the world a better place. I hope your new year is good to you. Happy Birthday!

Sincerely,
Georgine "George" Balassone

Making A Difference

Kate,

We met at Out &Equal 2 years ago and saw you again this year at the escalators (my partner Tom and I - I was the blond). Anyway, I just caught you on Logo and I have to tell you, I think you are terrific. I know you must get a ton of fan mail but, I hope on some level you know how much of a difference you make with your message.

Keep giving them L

Very Best Regards
Christopher

A Perfect Holiday Gift

Kate-

I'm a big fan. I've seen you in Syracuse (my birthplace!), SUNY New Paltz (close to home now) and P-Town (while staying at the Crown and Anchor-love that place!). As I slip, kick and scream into my early 50's as a late in life lesbian, and fellow anti-Bush/Cheney/C. Rice etc. etc. I appreciate your humor more and more. Thanks for all the laughs, God knows we need 'em. (oops forgot I'm an agnostic). And to spend the joy I'm sending my best friend a copy of your latest DVD for the holidays.

Happy belated birthday...better late than never, literally.

Mary
